OPENING LECTURE: DR. JIM KIRKLAND

Kick off the Rock & Mineral Festival with us Friday at 6:30 PM March 31st at the John Wesley Powell Museum for a lecture with Utah State Geologist Jim Kirkland. Dr. Kirkland will be presenting about Green River’s spectacular dinosaur fossils.

“Research over the past two decades on the Lower Cretaceous Cedar Mountain Formation has resulted in an appreciation of 35 million year, or more, geological and paleontological record preserved in this relatively thin but complex rock sequence. The long complex history recorded by these rocks results in its preserving six sequential non-overlapping terrestrial faunas with a greater diversity of dinosaur species than any other formation in the world.”
